Hi, I’m the person behind 123 Trivia, and I want to share a little origin story with you. It all started with a crazy idea: a trivia game show called 123 Game Show – think buzzers, lights, the whole shebang. The only problem? I didn’t have a TV studio (or a millionaire budget) to make that real.
So, I did the next best thing: I took my game show to a bar. I hosted a trivia night at a local pub to test out the gameplay. I figured I’d either bomb spectacularly or it would be awesome. Thankfully, it was the latter! People loved the fast-paced, multiple-choice format. The bar was packed and buzzing with energy. One weekly event turned into two, then three… before I knew it, we had a regular crew of trivia lovers coming back every week. I remember thinking, we might be onto something here.
That’s when I shifted gears from dreaming of TV studios to embracing the bar trivia life. 123 Trivia became a real business, not just my side gig. I brought on some amazing, enthusiastic hosts (basically people as trivia-obsessed as me) and we expanded to more venues. Before long, we had games running all over New York City. Then bar owners in other cities started reaching out. Now 123 Trivia events are happening in multiple cities – we’re talking NYC, Los Angeles, Miami – and it blows my mind how far we’ve come from that first little bar night.
We didn’t stop at trivia, either. We added 123 Bingo (a high-energy, one-hour digital bingo night) and TriviAmore (trivia-meets-speed-dating – yep, we made trivia dating a thing!). All of it runs through the 123 Fun app, which has become the hub of our events.
From the get-go, I knew tech was key to leveling up the experience. We built the 123 Fun app to make gameplay seamless and modern. Now players use their phones to play (no fuss, no mess) and hosts have a powerful tool that handles everything behind the scenes. The app automates scoring, runs the questions, and even shows a live leaderboard. Watching a little idea turn into an actual app that people use every week? So cool.
